IoT Asset Tracking Device

Tracking system for vehicles and company assets

Project at a Glance

Ptag2 is an “IoT asset tracking device” and is a product of PosTrack. This Device was built to monitor the movement and geoposition of assets. Asset tracking systems use GPS asset tracking devices, barcodes, or RFID tags to help manage equipment (generally high-value assets such as generators, tools, or OHVs). It is used to increase the security and efficiency of a company’s physical assets.

Technology Selection

After conducting extensive research on various technology stacks it was decided to use Hardware ARM Cortex M0 based Microcontroller, for Software Development C/C++ were used. We used Microchip Studio as an IDE (Development Environment).

THE CHALLENGE

  • IoT Asset Tracking Devices have connectivity and power dependency.
  • Though it may appear that IoT devices are performing simple tasks, such as counting entry swipes at a secure door, they are actually the result of a lot of complex technology. Furthermore, if they are providing critical data to another workflow or system, they may have a negative impact on everything connected to it.
  • It is difficult to keep the data gathered and transmitted by IoT devices secure as they evolve and expand in use.

SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION

We started working for PostTrack IoT asset tracking device dedicatedly, we work on this device remotely and perform the configurations and operations of the parameters. By troubleshooting we have identified and solved the issues. Updating firmware was a very important part. We have provided the support to run the FOTA (Firm Over the Air) process on devices in the field.
